Rick Thomas is an entrepreneur, publisher, and author who has lived and led through three decades of continuous technological and social change—and built a habit of walking around every idea to see it from as many angles as possible before settling on one, all while knowing that change may once again demand a shift in perspective.
In December 1996, he and his wife moved from their hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada, to Anchorage, Alaska—where the only people they knew were each other. They thrived. Two years after arriving, they founded a commercial audiovisual company in a spare room of their home that grew into a nationally recognized firm serving education, Fortune 100 companies, and government agencies across the United States. From the remoteness of Alaska's North Slope to the isolated reaches of the Aleutian chain, Rick introduced emerging technologies to people and organizations navigating constant disruption—his gift being the ability to make the complex and technical genuinely understandable.
What he observed along the way reshaped his thinking. The resistance or enthusiasm he met in response to change was rarely about the technology itself—it was about identity and purpose, fear and possibility. Saying that quiet part out loud, and holding the deeper conversation most people avoided, became his real work. In response, he founded a consulting company in 2016 and launched a magazine focused on leadership and how individuals and organizations respond to change, attracting contributors and readers in over 180 countries.
In 2023, Rick and his wife sold one company and closed another along with its magazine, freeing him to focus on a question that had long echoed in the background: How do we navigate our rapidly changing world—and who do we become when the certainty of the familiar is pulled from beneath us?
Addressing that question—the difference between being something and becoming someone—is the foundation of Seeker's Mindset.
Rick and his wife, Denise, live in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
“Too often, we mistake familiarity for truth, habit for choice, and inherited stories for identity. A Seeker’s Mindset begins the moment we question what we accepted without ever choosing it. It sets us on a course to be someone, not something.”
